FAA Establishes New Drone No-Fly Zone Around DHS Facilities and Operations

0 0

The Federal Aviation Administration has introduced a new drone no-fly zone specifically around Department of Homeland Security facilities and operations. Under this regulation, drones are prohibited within 3,000 feet horizontally and up to 1,000 feet vertically, an area now designated as “national defense airspace.”

This restriction applies not only to stationary DHS buildings but also to moving assets, including convoys, vehicles, and vessels operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, effectively creating mobile no-fly zones. Drone operators who violate the rule could face criminal penalties, fines, or revocation of their drone flying privileges.

The regulation also limits the use of drones for recording DHS or ICE activities, even in public spaces, raising legal implications for hobbyists, journalists, and commercial drone operators near these facilities.
