Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Urges Residents to Stop Wall Chalking to Preserve City’s Cleanliness

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has strongly addressed the issue of wall chalking, emphasizing that it not only deteriorates the visual appeal of the city but also reflects poorly on civic responsibility. He highlighted that the act of writing or painting on public walls, whether it is for political slogans, advertisements, or personal messages, leaves a negative impression on residents and visitors alike. The mayor drew a parallel, saying that just as people would never consider defacing the walls of their own homes, they should not treat the city’s walls as an open canvas for personal expression.

Wahab urged the citizens of Karachi to take collective responsibility for the city’s cleanliness and aesthetics. He pointed out that wall chalking contributes to urban pollution, increases maintenance costs for the municipal authorities, and undermines efforts to improve public spaces. By discouraging this practice, the city administration hopes to foster a culture of respect for shared spaces and civic pride. The mayor also encouraged residents to report incidents of wall chalking and participate in community-led initiatives to keep Karachi clean and presentable, reinforcing the idea that preserving the city’s appearance is a responsibility shared by all.
