Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced the discovery of new natural gas reserves in Kohat district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, marking consecutive discoveries in the region. The exploratory well Bilitang-1 in the TAL Block produced 1.58 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) from the Hangu and Lumshiwal formations.
The project is part of a joint venture involving MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas, Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), PPL, Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), and GHPL. This discovery is expected to enhance Pakistan’s energy security by utilizing indigenous resources, increasing domestic hydrocarbon reserves, and creating further opportunities for exploration and development in the area.
Drilling operations began in August 2025, reaching a depth of 4,011 meters. The successful outcome underscores the potential of the Kohat region as a key site for natural gas production, contributing to the country’s long-term energy strategy and economic growth.
