An earthquake was felt across multiple parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas, causing residents to rush outdoors in fear. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the quake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale. Tremors were reported in several regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Malakand, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Haripur.

Residents in Muzaffarabad, the Neelum Valley, and the Leepa Valley also experienced the shaking, with many people leaving their homes while reciting prayers. The Seismological Centre stated that the earthquake’s epicentre was located in northern Tajikistan at a depth of 159 kilometres, which explains why tremors were felt across a wide area of northern Pakistan. Authorities confirmed that no immediate reports of casualties or property damage had been received.

Pakistan has experienced several earthquakes in recent months. Earlier in December 2025, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Karachi and its surrounding areas at around 12:51am. That quake, recorded at a depth of 12 kilometres, was felt in areas such as SITE Area, Saddar, Clifton, DHA Phase 8, PECHS, Shah Faisal Colony, Liaquatabad, and Buffer Zone. Residents of Liaquatabad described the tremors as particularly strong, although no major damage or injuries were reported at the time.
