Applications are now open for the fully funded Ghent University Doctoral Scholarships 2026 in Belgium, offering international students from developing countries the chance to pursue PhD studies in Europe free of cost. This scholarship program is designed for outstanding researchers who aim to contribute to science and global development while studying at one of Europe’s leading research universities.

The Ghent University Doctoral Scholarship allows selected students to conduct part of their research at Ghent University in Belgium and the remaining part at a partner university in their home country. This collaboration helps bridge academic expertise between developing and developed regions while offering scholars access to advanced research facilities, international exposure, and mentorship from globally recognized professors. The program focuses on innovative and development-oriented research in areas such as biotechnology, food technology, environmental sciences, and sustainable development.

This fully funded PhD scholarship provides complete financial assistance, including tuition coverage, a monthly research allowance, and travel funds. Candidates must be in the early stages of their PhD studies, with at least 36 months of research remaining, and their first research stay in Belgium must begin between October 1, 2026, and February 28, 2027. Preference will be given to development-related research projects.

Selected scholars will receive a tuition fee waiver for 24 months, a monthly research stipend of €310, and a travel allowance of approximately €8,000. The scholarship also provides an opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research projects, collaborate with international researchers, and gain exposure to diverse academic practices and cultures.

The application process is fully online. Applicants must complete the form in English and submit it by email along with two additional documents from their supervisors: one evaluating the applicant’s potential as a researcher and another addressing the ethical and biosafety aspects of the proposed research project. The deadline for applications is January 16, 2026, and results will be announced starting May 20, 2026.
