PM Shehbaz Sharif Approves New Electricity Projects for Gwadar and Gilgit-Baltistan to Boost Economic Growth

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved new electricity projects aimed at improving power supply in Gwadar and Gilgit-Baltistan, underscoring the federal government’s focus on regional development and industrial growth. During a meeting in Islamabad on ongoing power sector reforms, the premier sanctioned the immediate implementation of a comprehensive plan to address electricity challenges in Gwadar Port City. He emphasized that uninterrupted electricity in Gwadar will boost domestic economic activity, attract investment, and help transform the port into a world-class hub for future commercial endeavors.

For Gilgit-Baltistan, Shehbaz Sharif approved a 100 MW solar project designed to provide stable, environmentally clean electricity to the region. He directed that the project’s implementation begin without delay, highlighting that the welfare and economic development of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan are a top priority for the federal government. The prime minister stressed that the government is committed to promoting industrial activity, investment, and overall economic development in the region.

The meeting reviewed recommendations from the committee headed by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and the Ministry of Power to resolve electricity issues effectively. Shehbaz Sharif instructed the Ministry of Power to ensure the proper execution of a comprehensive strategy encompassing immediate, short-term, and long-term projects. Officials confirmed that steps are being taken to guarantee electricity supply to both domestic and commercial consumers in Gwadar and that all necessary facilities, including land, infrastructure, and communications, will be provided for the successful completion of electricity projects in Gilgit-Baltistan within the designated timeframe.
