Karachi has introduced its first dedicated ambulance lane on Mainsfield Street in Saddar, a move aimed at improving emergency response times in the city. The initiative, led by Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso, is part of a broader effort to prioritize the safety and lives of citizens. The lane was cleared of encroachments and marked with clear ambulance signs to ensure unobstructed passage for emergency vehicles.
Saddar’s narrow and heavily congested streets have long posed challenges for ambulances, often delaying critical medical assistance. Despite these measures, vehicles were observed parked in the dedicated lane shortly after its launch, highlighting the ongoing struggle against illegal parking.
Residents have welcomed the initiative and urged authorities to implement similar dedicated lanes throughout Karachi, not only for ambulances but also for other emergency services like police and fire departments, to enhance overall urban safety and emergency response efficiency.
