Sindh police have been directed to take strict measures against vehicles operating without number plates or valid driving licences across the province. The order, issued by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, follows growing concerns over unregistered vehicles freely moving on Karachi roads, with videos circulating on social media showing motorists violating these basic regulations.
This directive comes just over a month after the launch of the electronic challan (e-challan) system in Karachi, which records traffic violations via CCTV cameras and automatically issues fines. Authorities have noted that despite the system, a significant number of vehicles continue to operate without proper registration or licences, posing safety risks and undermining law enforcement efforts.
The new instructions require police to identify such vehicles and drivers and take immediate action under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance. Enforcement measures include seizing unregistered vehicles, registering legal cases, and making arrests when necessary. Police officials across the province, including DIGs and SSPs, have been ordered to comply fully and submit daily enforcement reports to the IG Operations Room via email.
This is the second major directive in 35 days aimed at tightening traffic enforcement, with the first issued on October 31, 2025. Authorities emphasize that the crackdown seeks to ensure compliance with registration laws, improve road safety, and uphold the integrity of the e-challan system, ensuring that all motorists follow legal requirements while navigating city roads.
