Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has unveiled a comprehensive renovation plan for Karachi Zoo, focusing on modernizing animal enclosures, increasing staff, and implementing strict operational oversight to enhance overall management. During a detailed inspection of the facility, Wahab emphasized the need for larger and more humane habitats, ensuring animals have sufficient space and a healthier environment. He also mandated monthly medical reports for all zoo animals to monitor their health closely and prevent any neglect.
In addition to animal care, the mayor ordered full transparency in food preparation and kitchen hygiene, requiring that all meals meet strict safety and nutritional standards. These reforms are part of a broader strategy to transform Karachi Zoo into a center that balances recreation, education, and conservation, providing visitors with a safe and informative experience while promoting animal welfare.
The renovation follows Supreme Court of Pakistan–mandated inspections that highlighted deficiencies in hygiene, veterinary care, and facility management. The mayor’s proactive measures aim to restore public confidence in the zoo and establish it as a model institution for wildlife care in the region.
