Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that the long-delayed BRT Red Line project, which has been a major issue for the city, is now moving forward and will soon see rapid completion. Speaking on Sunday, he stated that the challenges holding up the project have been resolved, signaling positive developments for Karachi commuters.

The mayor also provided an update on the Mena Bazaar Underpass, confirming that the utility-related issues have been addressed and the underpass is expected to open by February. Highlighting the broader infrastructure improvements, Wahab emphasized that Shahrah-e-Bhutto is a project of national significance, connecting heavy traffic from Karachi to different parts of Pakistan.

Addressing political and local governance matters, Wahab criticized Jamaat Islami, claiming that although the party won all the towns in District Central, their contribution to city development has been minimal. He noted that North Nazimabad streets have been constructed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) at a cost of 100 million rupees, asserting that only the PPP effectively addresses the city’s infrastructure and public service needs.

The mayor further questioned Jamaat Islami about the pending expenditure of 140 million rupees allocated for road cutting projects, pointing out that while the PPP completes work and allocates funds, Jamaat Islami officials often only appear for ceremonial ribbon-cutting events. Wahab reiterated that the People’s Party remains committed to resolving Karachi’s infrastructure problems and ensuring timely project completion.
