The APU MEXT UR Scholarship 2026 offers a fully funded opportunity for international students to pursue master’s or PhD degrees at Asia Pacific University (APU) in Japan. Open to applicants from countries that maintain diplomatic relations with Japan, this scholarship is provided by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) through university recommendation. It is designed to support highly qualified students in advancing their education in a globally recognized academic environment.

Successful candidates will receive full tuition coverage, admission fee exemption, a monthly stipend of 144,000 JPY (subject to change), and round-trip airfare in economy class between their home country and Japan. APU’s multicultural campus, which offers courses in English and Japanese, allows students to gain a comprehensive education while engaging in rich cross-cultural exchange. The program supports scholars in building academic and professional networks in a globally connected setting.

To be eligible, applicants must hold citizenship from a MEXT-designated country, have a GPA of at least 2.30 on a 3.00 scale in their most recent academic institution, and be born on or after April 2, 1991. Candidates must not have previously received a MEXT scholarship within the past three years unless they have significant academic or research experience. Applicants must apply from abroad and should not be receiving other scholarships during their study period at APU. Military personnel and civilians in active duty are ineligible.

The application process begins with submitting an online application to APU. The university will then review applications and recommend top candidates to MEXT. Selected students will be notified and asked to provide additional documents for final approval by MEXT.

The deadline to apply for the APU MEXT UR Scholarship for the September 2026 intake is November 12, 2025. This scholarship presents a rare chance to study in Japan at no financial cost, gain high-quality education, and immerse oneself in the unique cultural experience APU offers.
