The EPFL Life Sciences Summer Research Program 2026 in Switzerland offers a fully funded opportunity for university students and early-career researchers pursuing studies in biology, biophysics, bioengineering, bioinformatics, genetics, chemistry, quantitative biology, and related life sciences disciplines. Running for eight weeks from July 3rd to August 27th, 2026, the program provides participants with hands-on laboratory experience, mentorship from faculty and scientific staff, and exposure to advanced research projects aimed at solving real-world challenges in life sciences.

The program accepts 20–25 candidates each summer, allowing them to work closely in EPFL labs while gaining critical technical and research skills. Participants also attend scientific seminars and personal development workshops to enhance their professional growth. Beyond academics, the summer program includes social activities such as day hikes and BBQs, promoting networking and cultural exchange among peers. EPFL’s vibrant campus, established in 1969, hosts over 17,000 students and staff, providing a dynamic environment for research and learning. All workshops, lab sessions, and seminars are conducted in English, while informal interactions among participants may occur in French or other languages. Housing is arranged in Lausanne or Geneva, depending on availability, with single or double rooms shared among participants.

Each participant receives a stipend of CHF 3,600 to cover living expenses and housing, which is pre-arranged. Most travel costs are reimbursed, with up to CHF 1,000 for long-distance flights and CHF 500 for shorter trips. The program emphasizes practical lab experience, teaching participants new techniques related to health and life sciences research, and fostering critical thinking in scientific investigation.

Eligibility requirements include the completion of at least two years of a bachelor’s degree and one year of a master’s degree, enrollment in a relevant life sciences program, a minimum GPA of 3.75 out of 4.0, and at least two years of prior work experience. Applicants should demonstrate a strong passion for a career in life sciences.

Applications must be submitted online, with all required fields completed and supporting documents provided. The deadline for submission is November 15th, 2025. The EPFL Life Sciences Summer Research Program represents an excellent opportunity for students to gain international research experience, enhance their technical and analytical skills, and engage in a vibrant academic and cultural environment in Switzerland.
