Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has officially confirmed that he will not participate in the IPL 2026 mini auction, bringing a close to his remarkable 13-season career in the Indian Premier League. Maxwell shared the announcement on social media, describing it as a “big call” and expressing heartfelt gratitude to fans, franchises, and teammates who supported him throughout his IPL journey.
The decision follows a challenging 2025 season with Punjab Kings, where Maxwell struggled for form, scoring just 48 runs in seven matches. His campaign was further hampered by a finger injury that ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament. Subsequently, Punjab Kings released him ahead of the 2026 auction.
Over the course of his IPL career, Maxwell played 141 matches, amassing more than 2,800 runs at a strike rate exceeding 155. He earned a reputation as a dangerous power hitter and a match-winning all-rounder, representing franchises such as Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he delivered some of his most memorable performances.
Maxwell’s departure marks the end of an era for IPL fans, leaving a notable gap among overseas all-rounders in the league. While he has not announced full retirement from T20 cricket, his future remains open, with speculation that he may take on mentorship roles, focus on other global T20 leagues, or explore opportunities beyond playing. His exit is expected to be deeply felt by fans and teams alike, given his impact and charisma on and off the field.
