The 2025 Asia Cup has taken another dramatic turn as Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi rejected India’s request to hand over the tournament trophy.
During the latest ACC meeting in Dubai, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla pressed the council to transfer the trophy to India, which had won the tournament. Mohsin Naqvi, however, dismissed the demand, clarifying that the Asia Cup trophy was not on the meeting’s agenda. He further remarked that if India truly wanted the trophy, its captain should personally visit the ACC headquarters to collect it.
The refusal reportedly infuriated the Indian delegation, which joined the meeting virtually. BCCI officials then suggested that the trophy be sent to ICC headquarters instead, but tensions escalated until other ACC members intervened. The Indian representatives eventually exited the meeting abruptly, cutting their digital feed.
This standoff follows India’s refusal to accept the trophy during the post-match presentation ceremony in Dubai, where Naqvi responded by removing it altogether — an unprecedented move in a major cricket final.
For now, the Asia Cup trophy remains in ACC custody with no decision on its delivery. The dispute adds to the long list of controversies surrounding the 2025 Asia Cup, from political gestures to trophy drama, cementing the tournament as one of the most turbulent in cricket history.
