A Pakistani youngster, Ahsan Yaseen, has brought international recognition to Pakistan by winning the Youth Camel Race at the 54th Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Camel Racing Festival held in Sharjah, one of the most prestigious events in the Gulf’s traditional sports calendar.

The 18-year-old, who is based in Dubai and pursuing engineering studies, outperformed experienced Arab competitors to claim the coveted Golden Camel Trophy along with a cash prize of AED 50,000. His achievement stands out as camel racing is a sport deeply embedded in Arab culture and heritage, where local riders traditionally dominate major competitions.

The race took place at the renowned Al Dhaid Camel Racing Track, with participants competing over a challenging two-kilometre distance. Ahsan began the race in sixth position, facing stiff competition from skilled riders with strong local support. Demonstrating exceptional focus, endurance and tactical awareness, he steadily gained ground during the race, overtaking several rivals in the final stretch to cross the finish line first.

He completed the race in an impressive time of three minutes and 47 seconds, a performance that surprised spectators and officials alike. His comeback from a mid-pack position to victory highlighted not only physical stamina but also mental resilience and determination under pressure.

Ahsan’s victory is being hailed as historic, as it reflects the growing participation and success of Pakistani youth in unconventional and culturally significant international sports. His triumph has also been seen as a symbol of cross-cultural achievement, showcasing how talent and hard work can break traditional barriers in a sport long associated with Arab identity.

The win has generated pride among Pakistanis at home and abroad, with many praising the young athlete for representing the country on such a prominent global stage.
