Manchester United have announced the sacking of head coach Ruben Amorim following a disappointing draw against relegation-threatened Leeds United. The Premier League club stated that with Manchester United sitting sixth in the league, the leadership decided a change was necessary to give the team the best chance of achieving the highest possible finish. The club is currently 17 points behind leaders Arsenal and has secured only one victory in their last five matches.
The decision comes shortly after Amorim responded defiantly to questions about his job security, insisting he joined United with full managerial authority rather than as a coach following orders. The Portuguese coach appeared downbeat during discussions about potential transfers on Friday, and his frustration grew after the Leeds draw when reporters pressed him about whether he still had the board’s confidence.
Amorim sharply criticized what he called “selective information” and delivered a strong defense of his role, making it clear he had no intention of stepping away from Old Trafford. He repeatedly emphasized his authority as manager rather than performing solely coaching duties, highlighting his commitment to leading the team despite mounting pressure.
