Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has voiced strong disappointment after his brother, Umar Akmal, was left out of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) player auction. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kamran described the process as “unfair” and questioned why Umar’s name was missing from the auction despite completing the official registration, sparking widespread debate among cricket fans.
According to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) official registration list, Umar had submitted his details for the PSL 2026 auction. However, his name did not appear in the final pool of players available for bidding. Umar has previously played 41 PSL matches, scoring 1,029 runs at a strike rate of 144.32, making his omission surprising to many supporters.
Fans have expressed disappointment and called for transparency from league organizers, arguing that registered players should at least be considered in the bidding process. Meanwhile, some defended the PSL system, noting that registration does not guarantee inclusion and that franchises select players based on team strategy, performance, and market dynamics.
Critics also highlighted Umar’s inconsistent form in recent seasons, citing fluctuating averages and limited impact in matches, which may have influenced franchises’ decisions. The PSL’s move from a draft to an auction system this year has increased competition, with 888 players registering but only a portion selected for the auction in Lahore.
