Google Introduces AI Mode That Can Call Stores and Make Purchases on Your Behalf

Google is rolling out a new set of AI-powered shopping tools in the US, expanding its agentic AI strategy to make online and offline shopping more seamless and personalized. These innovations bring futuristic capabilities to everyday shopping, from contacting local stores to automatically completing purchases.

One of the standout features allows Google’s AI to call nearby stores on a user’s behalf. When searching for certain products, users may see a “Let Google call” option. After providing basic information about the item, the AI contacts local retailers to confirm stock availability, prices, and special offers. Users receive a summary via email or text, along with inventory updates from additional nearby stores. This feature is being introduced across categories such as toys, electronics, and health and beauty products in the US.

Another major addition is agentic checkout in Google Search. Users tracking a product’s price can specify the variant they want, including size, color, and budget. When the price reaches the user’s threshold, Google notifies them and can complete the purchase via Google Pay with user confirmation. This automation streamlines buying from supported merchants while keeping control in the hands of the shopper.

Google has also enhanced AI Mode in Search to provide smarter, more conversational results. Users can describe what they are looking for in natural language, and the AI returns organized responses with visuals, pricing, reviews, and inventory details tailored to each query.

Finally, Google has integrated shopping features directly into the Gemini app for US users. The app can suggest holiday gift ideas, provide shoppable product recommendations, generate comparison tables, and display prices and purchasing options from across the web, all within the app interface. These tools collectively represent a significant step toward making AI a proactive shopping assistant, bridging online and in-store experiences.
