Applications for the Aalto University Summer Research Program 2026 are now open, offering a unique international internship opportunity for students worldwide to gain hands-on research experience in Finland. This program welcomes undergraduate and master’s students to actively participate in research projects and collaborate with leading research groups at Aalto University. Organized by the Aalto Science Institute, the summer research program provides international students with paid research positions, combining professional development with a culturally enriching experience. The 2026 program offers 50 research positions across seven departments within the School of Science and the three Engineering schools, giving students exposure to a dynamic and inclusive academic environment in Finland.

The Aalto University Summer Internship 2026 includes a competitive salary that covers living and accommodation expenses, making it accessible for students to spend their summer in Finland without financial burden. The program also incorporates cultural and social activities such as a “Get to Know Finland” course, regular lunch gatherings, sports events, cultural excursions, and day trips, offering a comprehensive experience beyond research. Participants will have the opportunity to present their findings during the AScI scientific poster exhibition held in mid to late August, sharing their work with the Aalto University community. All research positions are located on the Otaniemi campus in Espoo, Finland, and remote participation is not available.

The previous AScI Summer Research Program in 2025 received over 7,200 applications globally, with 57 interns from 25 countries enjoying a productive and engaging summer at Aalto University. The 2026 program is expected to attract significant interest due to its reputation and unique research opportunities. The program is open to students from all schools at Aalto University, including Science, Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Arts, Business, Design, and Architecture, though positions are primarily in science and engineering disciplines.

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria to participate in the AScI International Summer Research Program. Students of any nationality, including bachelor’s, master’s, and recent master’s graduates, can apply. Candidates should demonstrate strong interest, relevant academic background, and enthusiasm for research projects offered by AScI. A full-time commitment from June to August is required, and successful applicants must be physically present at the Otaniemi campus in Espoo, Finland.

The AScI Summer Research Program provides numerous benefits, including a monthly salary starting at 2,000 euros depending on experience, a travel allowance for participants inside and outside Europe, and one week of paid vacation. The program assists students with housing, visas, relocation, and integration into Finnish life. Additional social, cultural, and academic activities, including courses and regular networking gatherings, enhance the summer experience and foster community among international interns.

Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, official transcripts, a motivation letter of up to two pages, a letter of recommendation, and proof of English language proficiency (recommended but not mandatory) to complete the application process. Student selection and interviews will take place in February 2026.
