Rawalpindi’s Rs. 35.28 billion infrastructure revamp is progressing rapidly as the Punjab government pushes major flyovers and underpasses toward completion across both city and cantonment areas. The development plan includes four flyovers and eight underpasses designed to ease chronic congestion and improve urban mobility.
Authorities have approved an additional flyover at Ammar Shaheed Chowk after a significant increase in traffic flow at the busy interchange. The structure, estimated at Rs. 3.45 billion, will move into the construction phase next year once final administrative approvals are completed.
One flyover and two underpasses are already operational, while two more flyovers and three underpasses are currently under construction. Work on three additional underpasses is set to begin on December 20, accelerating the overall timeline.
The Nawaz Sharif Flyover at Khawaja Corporation Chowk, built at a cost of Rs. 4.4 billion, is now open to traffic. Adiala Road is also undergoing redesign and expansion to accommodate growing commuter volume. The GPO Chowk and TMA Chowk underpasses have been completed at a combined cost of Rs. 5.7349 billion and are fully functional.
At Kachehry Chowk, construction on a flyover and underpass that began on November 3 for Rs. 5.974249 billion is slated for completion by April 30, 2026. The Jinnah Park flyover and underpass, linked to this project and costing Rs. 4.672245 billion, are expected to be ready by March 30, 2026.
Another key development is the underpass and expansion of Iftikhar Janjua Road, a Rs. 2.688073 billion project that is scheduled to be completed by January 30, 2026. Together, these projects represent one of the largest infrastructure upgrades in Rawalpindi’s recent history, aimed at reducing traffic bottlenecks and improving long-term connectivity across the region.
