Pakistan has sent a specialized search and rescue mission to Sri Lanka after the island nation was hit by a destructive cyclone, triggering widespread damage and displacements. Acting on the direct instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a Pakistan Air Force C-130 aircraft departed with a 47-member rescue team and 6.5 tons of urgently needed relief goods to support ongoing humanitarian operations.
The aid package includes family tents, blankets, life jackets, and critical medical supplies to help affected communities cope with immediate challenges. Pakistan Navy personnel are also contributing to rescue and relief efforts on the ground, while the Pakistan Army is providing temporary bridges to help restore connectivity in damaged areas and support recovery operations.
Sri Lanka’s government has acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s swift and timely assistance, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation during natural disasters and emergencies.
