The Sindh Safe City Authority (SSCA) has released its latest performance report covering October to December 2025, highlighting significant achievements in security operations and the use of advanced surveillance technologies to enhance public safety in Karachi.

According to the report, the city’s facial recognition system played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending suspects, leading to the arrest of three individuals. Over the three-month period, the system issued a total of 13 alerts; after verification, 10 individuals were cleared, while three were taken into custody.

The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system also proved effective, generating 707 alerts and leading to the seizure of 26 vehicles. One case was registered as a result of these interventions, and 138 people were released after verification. The system has become an important tool in monitoring vehicle movement and identifying irregularities, particularly in cases involving illegal or altered number plates.

In addition, the report recorded incidents involving the public display of weapons. Seven alerts were generated through surveillance, with five individuals cleared after verification. Two suspects were arrested, and cases were filed against them. The findings underscore the increasing efficiency of Karachi’s technological monitoring systems in supporting law enforcement and ensuring public safety across the city.

Building on these efforts, Karachi police announced a citywide operation targeting vehicles with fake, altered, or concealed registration numbers. Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Javed Alam Odho stated that the crackdown would begin on Friday, December 19, 2025. The operation aims to curb attempts by motorists to evade traffic penalties and ensure compliance with registration laws.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Karachi Police Office, attended by Chief of the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Zubair Habib, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, and Director of Excise Motor Registration Shabana Baloch. Authorities emphasized that this initiative, combined with SSCA’s technological surveillance, will strengthen traffic law enforcement and contribute to safer roads in Karachi.
