Pakistani students now have an opportunity to study in South Korea through the fully funded Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) for Exchange Students, a prestigious program administered by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED). The initiative is designed to promote academic exchange and strengthen educational ties between South Korea and partner countries by enabling international students to experience Korean higher education.
The GKS exchange program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students from all academic disciplines. It allows selected candidates to study at participating Korean universities for one academic semester, typically lasting around four months. During this period, students can take courses relevant to their degree programs, gain international academic exposure, and experience Korean culture and campus life.
Successful applicants receive comprehensive financial support. The scholarship covers round-trip airfare, ensuring travel costs are fully funded. Students are also provided with a monthly living allowance of 630,000 Korean won to help cover accommodation, meals, and daily expenses. Additional benefits and support are provided in line with NIIED regulations, which may include medical insurance and settlement assistance.
To be eligible, applicants must be officially nominated by their home university in Pakistan. They are required to meet academic performance standards, fulfill health requirements, and comply with all guidelines set by NIIED and the host Korean institution. Since nominations are handled through universities, interested students are advised to contact their international or exchange offices well in advance.
The application timeline varies by intake. Deadlines are typically in December for the Spring semester and in June for the Fall semester. With full funding, access to world-class universities, and exposure to South Korea’s advanced education system, the GKS Exchange Students program offers Pakistani students a valuable opportunity to enhance their academic profile and global experience.
