Rawalpindi to Launch Rs8 Billion Peshawar Road Underpass Project in January

Rawalpindi is preparing to begin an Rs8 billion underpass project on Peshawar Road in January, a development aimed at reducing severe traffic congestion on one of the city’s busiest routes. The plan includes the construction of three underpasses at Race Course Park Square, Army Graveyard Square, and Chairing Cross. Once completed, the project will help establish a signal-free corridor stretching from Ammar Chowk to Motorway Chowk, significantly improving travel time and easing bottlenecks for daily commuters.

Work orders for the Frontier Works Organisation are expected to be issued in December, after which construction and traffic diversions will be implemented. With nearly 250,000 vehicles using Peshawar Road every day, the city administration is preparing alternative routes to manage the flow during development. The underpass initiative is part of a broader infrastructure upgrade that also includes ongoing improvements at Kutchery Chowk and GPO Chowk, designed to modernize Rawalpindi’s road network and enhance overall urban mobility.
