The Islamabad district administration has taken strict enforcement action against a private mart operating inside Centaurus Mall after uncovering multiple violations related to overpricing and food safety, officials confirmed.
According to a statement issued by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, the action was carried out on his direct instructions following complaints about inflated prices and substandard food items being sold at the outlet. The inspection was conducted by the Assistant Commissioner of the Industrial Area, who visited the mart and identified serious breaches of price control regulations.
During the inspection, officials found fruits, vegetables, and sugar being sold at rates higher than officially notified prices. In addition, expired milk was also discovered on sale, raising concerns over consumer health and food safety standards. As part of the enforcement operation, two individuals associated with the mart were taken into custody and shifted to the local lock-up for further legal proceedings.
Deputy Commissioner Memon said the administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against profiteering, overpricing, and the sale of expired or unsafe food items. He stressed that such practices directly harm consumers and will not be allowed anywhere in the federal capital, regardless of the location or status of the business.
He further added that regular inspections and crackdowns are continuing across Islamabad to ensure compliance with price control laws and food safety regulations. The administration, he said, remains committed to protecting consumers’ rights and ensuring fair pricing and safe food for residents, warning that violators will face strict action under the law without any discrimination.
