2025 Marks Worst Year for Internet Outages in Pakistan, Disrupting Connectivity Nationwide

Pakistan faced its most challenging year for internet connectivity in 2025, with a total of 68 outages reported nationwide, according to industry sources cited by ProPakistani. These disruptions cumulatively lasted around 900 hours, or nearly 38 days, significantly affecting users across the country and disrupting digital services, online businesses, and daily communication.

Industry experts attribute most of these outages to a combination of regulatory restrictions and backbone issues experienced by upstream providers, including faults in submarine cables. The problem reflects broader infrastructural and regulatory challenges affecting Pakistan’s internet ecosystem.

Among the incidents, the most severe disruption occurred in March 2025, when regulatory measures led to drastically reduced internet speeds for approximately 13 days, marking the longest single connectivity issue of the year. Another significant outage took place in September 2025, when faults in submarine cables caused a week-long disruption of services.

The issue remained persistent, with major internet service providers experiencing additional outages, including a full day-long nationwide disruption over a recent weekend. These recurring connectivity problems highlight the ongoing need for infrastructure upgrades and improved regulatory frameworks to ensure reliable internet access for users across Pakistan.
