The Hansen Leadership Institute 2026 is now open for applications, offering a prestigious international leadership program funded by the Fred J. Hansen Foundation. Recognized as one of the top summer fellowships in the United States, this fully funded exchange program will take place in the summer of 2026 at the University of San Diego. The three-week program brings together young men and women from around the world to develop their leadership potential and build meaningful cross-cultural connections.

The Hansen Leadership Institute (HLI) is designed for individuals with strong leadership qualities who are dedicated to improving their communities, countries, or regions. The fully funded fellowship aims to enhance participants’ personal and professional growth in today’s competitive world. Through leadership training, mentorship, and experiential learning, the program equips international students with the skills needed for conflict resolution, cooperation, and building a peaceful future.

The 2026 Hansen Leadership Institute focuses on fostering a global network of emerging leaders who can use their knowledge and influence to create positive change worldwide. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with accomplished mentors and professionals who have excelled in various fields, gaining practical insights from their experiences.

In addition to leadership development, the program emphasizes communication and intercultural understanding. Proficiency in English is important, as all sessions, workshops, and discussions will be conducted in the language. Participants will also explore the city of San Diego during the program. All expenses are covered, including international airfare, accommodation, meals, and program fees, with additional support for visa processing.

The program will run from July 1 to July 22, 2026, at the University of San Diego, California. Applications close on January 15, 2026, for international candidates.

Eligible applicants must be between 20 and 25 years old by July 1, 2026, and have completed at least one year of university studies. Recent graduates from 2024 or 2025 are also eligible. Candidates must demonstrate leadership potential and provide a letter of recommendation from an academic advisor verifying English proficiency.

Selected participants will receive full financial support, including free accommodation, airfare, and all program costs. Each participant will also be provided with the necessary documentation for a U.S. visa application, including a letter of acceptance, DS-2019 form, proof of financial support, and SEVIS fee receipt.

Applicants must submit two reference letters—one from an academic advisor or professor and another from an NGO or community organization they have worked with—along with a valid passport. The deadline for U.S. applicants is March 15, 2026.
